Before jumping on to the 10nm Canon Lake SoCs that are rumoured to be delayed until 2019, Intel will reportedly launch its 9th Generation Core processors that are based on the 14nm architecture on October 1. According to a WCCFTech report, the company will introduce new Core i9, i7 and i5 processors next month, which will be categorised under the company’s 9th Generation of chips.
The company is said to first launch its unlocked processors that can be overclocked with ease, followed by more 9th Gen processors in early 2019. As per the report that cites some leaked confidential documents, the Intel Core i9-9900K will be the company’s first mainstream octa-core CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads. It is said to have a base clock speed of 3.6GHz, which could go up to 4.7GHz on 6/8 cores and up to 5GHz while performing single/dual core operations at a TDP of 95W. It is said to come with 16 MB of L3 cache and an Intel UHD 620 graphics chip. Meanwhile, the Core i7-9700 processor will reportedly be shipped with 8 cores, a first in its tier, and 8 threads. For the CPU, base clock speed is said to start at 3.6GHz and it could top out at 4.6GHz when all cores are operating. The speed goes up to 4.9GHz on a single core.
It could feature 12MB of L3 cache and have a 95W TDP. The Core i5-9600K is said to be a mid-tier 6 core processor with 6 threads with 9 MB of L3 cache. It will reportedly have a base clock speed of 3.7GHz that could top out at 4.3 GHz for all six cores and 4.6GHz for one core. The chip has the same 95W TDP as the i7 and i9 processors. The new processors add to Intel’s existing portfolio but it remains to be seen how they stack up against AMD’s Ryzen chips.
