WhatsApp for web now lets you make voice calls: Report

WhatsApp for Web has made it convenient for users to chat on WhatsApp while working on their computers. This means, that once you are logged in on your computer, you don't need to reach for your phone every time you get a message. You can simply check the messages on your desktop/laptop. The desktop client also gives you notifications when you receive a new message. The one feature that WhatsApp for Web lacks is the ability to make and receive calls - both voice and video. But it looks like that’s about to change.

According to WABetaInfo, a new version of WhatsApp for web/desktop has released. This brings the version up to 2.2043.7. The addition that this update brings is the ability to make calls. In the top right of a contact window, the user will see a phone icon letting him/her make a call.

Users can also receive a call using the desktop/web app. When receiving a call, you will see a small pop-up window that will give you the option to receive or reject a call. When making a call, you also get a small popup showing the status as calling or ringing, similar to what we’ve seen on a smartphone.

According to the source, group voice calls and video calls are also there but the feature isn’t available yet.

The feature to answer and make calls coming to WhatsApp for Web is quite interesting and will give users a totally mobile free experience for using WhatsApp for Web so long as your phone is on and connected to the internet.

WhatsApp has added a bunch of new features to its mobile app along with some features that are in beta. You can learn more about them here.
