PS5 and Xbox Series X price and release date leaked yet again

Less than 3 months for the PS5 and Xbox Series X to release, and we still don't have a concrete launch date or price for the consoles. While Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series X will launch in November, Sony has only said “Holiday 2020” as a launch date for the PS5. Now new information has appeared online suggesting the release date and price of the upcoming console. The information comes from Roberto Serrano who apparently doesn’t have the best track record for leaking information. So why are we considering his leaked information in this story? Well, it does lineup with what's being presumed and the release date of the Series X does line up with the previously leaked controller. So let’s look at what he has to say about the price and release date of the new console.

*BREAKING NEWS* @Xbox and @PlayStation fans According to latest news (more than a rumor or speculation), the next-gen console release date should be #XboxSeriesS 11.05.2020 399 $/€ #XboxSeriesX 11.06.2020 499 $/€ #PS5 11.13.2020 $/€ 499 - Digital $/€ 399 *TBC* pic.twitter.com/XwEXtblL8n

As mentioned above, Sony has been tight-lipped about the launch and price of the PS5. While previous information suggests it costs Sony about $450 to make a PS5, Sony hasn’t given us much information or even hinted at a possible price. During the reveal of the PS5, Sony did confirm that the PS5 will be available in 2 variants - one with a Blu-ray drive and one All Digital.

According to the new leak, the All Digital PS5 will be priced at $399 and the PS5 with a Blu-ray drive will be priced at $499. According to the leak, both versions of the PS5 will go on sale on November 13, 2020, in the US. Earlier leaks suggested that the PS5 would go on sale in Japan on November 14 followed by a worldwide release on November 20. Considering how important a market the US is, it is possible the PS5 could release there first.

Since the PS4 also launched in the US on November 15, 2013, the release date for the PS5 seems somewhat plausible. However, we do remind you to take the above information with a grain of salt.

In India as well, there is a page live on e-commerce websites and Sony’s own online store highlighting the features of the PS5. So we can expect the console to launcher sooner in India than the PS4. The PS4 launched in India in January 2014, 2 months after its US release.

Xbox Series X and Series S release date and price

While Microsoft has given us a lot of information about the Xbox Series X, the Series S console is its worst kept secret. A next-gen Xbox controller was leaked recently and the box highlighted the existence of the Series S console. While Microsoft is yet to officially unveil the Series S, information circulating the internet suggests it will be a more affordable less-powerful Xbox but will house the same CPU and SSD technology as the series X.  As mentioned above, Microsoft has confirmed the Series X will launch in November and leaks on the internet suggest Number 6 as the launch date.

According to the new leak, the Xbox Series S will launch on November 5 for $399 undercutting the digital edition of the PS5 by $100 while the Series X will launch a day later on November 6 for $499, the same as the PS5.

Again we’d like to tell you to take the leaked information with a grain of salt as this is not official and Sony and Microsoft could change their launch plans anytime.

PlayStation Lead Architect Mark Cerny promised us a teardown of the PS5 when the technical specs were revealed, and we are yet to see that. So it is safe to say that Sony probably has at least 1 more big PS5 event planned before the console hits store shelves. Same for the Xbox where we can expect the company to officially announce the Series S.

While we wait for some official information on the pricing and release date of the next-gen consoles, you can check out our comparison of the specs of the PS5 and Xbox Series X here and a comparison of the design of the two consoles here.
