Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 8A smartphone via a soft launch event today, in India. There’s not much information about the device apart from what the company has revealed. We already know that the company’s ‘A’ series of smartphones are entry-level handsets aimed at first-time smartphone users or those who are upgrading from a feature phone to an Android device. The Redmi 8A is confirmed to sport a waterdrop notch display design and sport thin bezels all around the panel, except for the chin, which is slightly thicker and features the Redmi logo. Here’s what it could be priced at, what specs it could come with and how you can catch the livestream.

Redmi 8A expected specsRedmi has already confirmed that the Redmi 8A will feature a ‘bigger battery’ and the company’s teasers hint at the presence of a 5000mAh battery. It will also support faster charging but we will have to wait to know exactly how fast the new device can be charged. The handset sports an “aura wave grip design” on the back panel, and as mentioned earlier, it sports a waterdrop notch display design.
A smartphone with model number M1908C3KE was previously spotted on TENAA, and it is believed to be á¹he new Redmi 8A. Images of the phone on the website reveal a single camera setup with an LED flash and no fingerprint sensor on the back. This was confirmed by the company, since the phone has been revealed in the thumbnail of the live stream launch. The handset might just support face unlock, alongside the conventional PIN, password and other methods. As per the listing, the handset supports 4G LTE connectivity and is a dual-SIM device that runs on Android 9 Pie.
Redmi 8A expected priceRedmi is expected to price its entry-level offering quite competitively, since the Redmi 7A was announced for Rs 5,999 last year. We expect the Redmi 8A to be priced the same or slightly higher in India.
