Huawei P30 patent reveals dual-tone design, could be announced alongside Mate 30

Huawei P30 is on its way to receive two new colour options. The European Patent Office has just received a couple of new colour options for the Huawei P30. One is almost a gradient, and the other is reminiscent of the “Panda” version of Google Pixel 2 XL. The new Huawei P30 could be released alongside the Huawei Mate 30 series next month.

The gradient version appears to be a variation of the Huawei P30’s Breathing Crystal variant. On looking closely, a separate panel can be seen on the top third of the back. However, the effect is much more subtle than the other variant. We can easily spot a dual-tone treatment on the “Panda” Huawei P30. It has a black top, and white bottom on two-thirds of the rear panel.

The patents were filed back in May, before the whole Huawei controversy with the US government took place. They were published a few days ago, which suggests that Huawei could be looking to release them very soon, possibly alongside the Huawei Mate 30 series at IFA 2019.

It is not clear if the Huawei P30 Pro will get the new colours as well. However, at IFA 2018, Huawei released four new colour options for the Huawei P20 Pro.

The upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to ship the same camera that is used on the P30 Pro, which has a quad camera setup. The Huawei P30 Pro features a 40 MP main sensor that has an f/1.6 aperture lens, an 8MP periscope camera with  f/3.4 aperture, a 20MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a TOF 3D sensor. However, according to a report, the Mate 30 Pro could feature two custom-made 40MP cameras on the back, instead of just one. The smartphone is most likely to use Huawei’s patented RYYB pixel layout.
