PUBG banned in Gujarat primary schools as it adversely affects studies

The state primary education department issued circular banning the game.  The circular reportedly states that the title was banned as it is addictive for children and was "adversely affecting their studies". PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the most successful battle royale games. However, time and again the title has faced scrutiny and is said to be addictive for players. Now, PTI reports that the Gujarat government’s primary education department has issued a circular asking district authorities to implement a ban on PUBG. The circular is said to have been issued after Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights made a recommendation to do so because children were supposedly getting addicted to the online multiplayer game and it was “adversely affecting their studies”.  As per the PTI report, District Primary Education Officers have been directed to take the required steps for enforcing a complete ban on PUBG in primary schools. The circular reportedly stated that the ban was necessary since children were getting addicted to it. It’s not clear whether both the mobile version and the PC version of PUBG are being banned. Jagruti Pandya, chairperson of the Gujarat child rights body, said that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has recommended a ban on the game across the country.  "The NCPCR had sent a letter to all the states and recommended a ban on the game. All the states are required to implement it. Looking at the negative effects of the game, we had recently sent a letter to the state government recommending a ban on the game," said Ms Pandya. This news comes soon after the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association asked the state’s governor to ban PUBG Mobile for the same reason of being too addictive and causing poor results of students in Class X and XII exams. There have been some other cases like, a 15-year old student who was reportedly undergoing treatment for PubG addiction as he would play the game till late at night and skip school. While games are fun and are a way to decompress for both kids and adults, time spent playing them needs to be balanced.
