Now, a media report claims that the company's wireless charging mat has already entered mass production and another manufacturer will start making the device from January 21. Citing a tweet by ChargerLab, 9to5mac reported that the manufacturer Luxshare Precision has started producing AirPower mat, and a follow-up tweet from the same source claimed that Pegatron will start mass production of the device on January 21. ChargerLab posted the screenshot of a conversation, which apparently happened with a “credible source in the supply chain” who informed about the new development. Luxshare has been manufacturing AirPods and USB-C cables for Apple and it could reportedly be providing the components for the AirPower mat, while Pegatron handles assembly. AirPower mat was supposed to launch in 2018 and consumers anticipated the announcement of its availability with the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR. However, Apple didn’t launch it. Reportedly, overheating and communication interference issues plagued the development of Apple’s AirPower pad. According to one of the tweets by ChargerLab, the AirPower is expected to feature a total of three coils in an “8-7-7 configuration.” Previously, a report claimed that, unlike normal wireless chargers which contain a single coil to charge a single device at a time, the AirPower mat reportedly contains between 16 and 24 overlapping coils of different sizes to charge multiple devices simultaneously.
