Google Assistant may soon support 14 new languages, including 8 Indian languages

In February, Google announced that the Google Assistant will expand and support more than 30 languages by the end of the year, and at the Google for India event, the company said that Google Assistant will soon be updated with support for Marathi as well as seven more Indian languages. The first concrete evidence of Google’s announcement has been accessed and leaked by a developer associated with XDADevelopers. The folks have found a mention of 14 new languages that Google is said to be testing for the Google Assistant. The tech news platform says that the latest beta version of the Google App that rolled out over the weekend has clues about the development. The 14 new languages are Arabic (Egypt, Saudi Arabia), Bengali, English (India, Indonesia, Ireland, Philippines, Thailand), German (Austria), Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Polish, Spanish (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru), Tamil, Telugu, Turkish and Urdu. The Assistant already has Hindi language support. Google is yet to make an official statement and it has almost 40 days to complete its promised quota of 30 language support on Google Assistant. Google also announced that Assistant will also be multilingual. “We’re also making the Assistant multilingual later this year, so families or individuals that speak more than one language can speak naturally to the Assistant. With this new feature, the Assistant will be able to understand you in multiple languages fluently. If you prefer to speak German at work, but French at home, your Assistant is right there with you. Multilingual will first be available in English, French and German, with support for more languages coming over time,” Google had announced. Recently, Google said that its translate service can now interpret and convert 13 more languages, the new 13 languages including, Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali Arabic, Thai and Vietnamese, into one that a user easily understands. The company rolled out the update for both Android and iOS app users worldwide. The addition of Arabic, Bengali, Hindi and Punjabi to the list means that the camera in the Google Translate app now knows how to recognise four of the top 10 most spoken languages on Earth, according to Babbel - a language-learning platform.
