Google limits Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL wireless charging to 5W on third party charging pads

Google’s latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 3 (read review here) and the Pixel 3 XL (read review here) support wireless charging thanks to the glass back. The search giant has also launched the Pixel Stand which brings an interesting set of features such as making your phone a digital photo frame, specific Google assistant capabilities, gradually increasing ambient lighting alarm and of course fast wireless charging. Reports circulating the internet suggest that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will only support fast wireless charging on the Pixel Stand. Even if you have a 10W wireless charger from a third party, you will not be able to fast charge your Pixel 3 on it. When you put your Pixel 3 on a third party 10W wireless charger, the display of the smartphone will show you fast charging, however the smartphone isn’t charging as fast as it can. Google says that the Pixel 3 will charge at 10W on the Pixel Stand because of a "secure handshake" being established between the two devices. This is a bummer as neither Samsung not Apple devices that support wireless fast charging do this. You can fast charge your Apple or Samsung device on a third party fast wireless charger. So, if you want fast wireless charging on your Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL, you will have to invest in a Pixel Stand. Speaking of the specifications of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, they are identical under the hood. The difference is in the battery capacity, dimensions, display size and resolution and the presence of a notch on the Pixel 3 XL. The Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch display with a 2960 x1440p resolution where as the Pixel 3 has a 5.5-inch display with a 2160x1080p resolution. Both the displays are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The battery capacity of the Pixel 3 XL is 3430mAh where as the Pixel 3 has a 2915mAh battery. Both the devices run on Snapdragon 845 platform coupled with 4GB RAM. The rear of the devices sports a 12.2MP camera whereas the front has a dual 8MP camera setup. In terms of storage you get the option of either 64GB or 128GB with no expansion. The Pixel 3 XL is priced at Rs 83,000 for the 64GB variant and Rs 92,000 for the 128GB variant where as the Pixel 3 is priced at Rs 71,000 for the 64GB and Rs 80,000 for the 128GB variant.
