In July, a leak said that Samsung is working on a smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Later, a report followed it up and claimed that Samsung’s first phone with this technology would belong to the Galaxy A Series. In another such report, it has been suggested that Samsung plans to introduce two new smartphone series in China known as Galaxy P and Galaxy R. While nothing is known about the R series, but Galaxy P series phones are said to belong in the mid-range segment and it could be the Galaxy P1 that could come with the in-display fingerprint sensor. As per a leak (via PhoneArena), the smartphone may go official sometime next month in China. If we observe the market positioning of the smartphone, we can expect the smartphone to be powered by an Exynos processor with 3GB or 4GB RAM. The report in Android Police says there is a possibility of a dual-camera setup on the back and Samsung is expected to launch this smartphone with its traditional top and bottom bezel design. Apart from the rumoured Galaxy P1, Samsung is also tipped to launch the Galaxy S10 with an in-display fingerprint scanner at MWC next year. In a patent published by the US Patent and Trademark Office, Samsung explained how its technology will work in its upcoming devices. According to the patent, the company will use four extra sensors in addition to the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Samsung will use a dedicated ultrasonic transmission/reception module that will activate a particular area in the display to scan the fingerprint.
