HMD Global may have delayed Nokia 9 smartphone launch till MWC 2019

Thanks to the penta-camera setup on the rear panel of the alleged Nokia 9 smartphone, the leaks surrounding the device have gained a lot of traction. The phone was reported to launch during the last quarter of the calendar year of 2018, but it seems that potential buyers will now have to wait till February next year to witness the launch of the Nokia flagship smartphone. According to a series of tweets by a Russian Nokia community handle, the launch has been postponed till MWC in 2019 because a company executive reportedly does not see the smartphone in question to be “perfect” for launch just yet.

Killing Nokia 9: the announcement of the smartphone this year canceled Nokia 9 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated flagships of the year. Since the beginning of the Finnish brand's return to the market, HMD Global has introduced 2 "flagship" smartphones.#killingnokia9 pic.twitter.com/KeWaeneDin — Nokia anew (@nokiamobileru) 17 September 2018 According to the Nokia anew handle on Twitter, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas is “categorically against the announcement of Nokia 9 this year and is going to postpone the announcement again to MWC 2019.” The alleged Nokia 9 meets the same fate as this year’s flagship the Nokia 8 Sirocco.

The announcement of the flagship was planned in the autumn, but Sarvikas decided that the device “is not quite ready for the announcement” and postponed the announcement at MWC 2018. The tweets also claim that the Nokia 8 Sirocco “had a future. But since it was presented only in March, despite all the advantages, the flagship ‘faded’ against the background of more recent flagships on snap845 from other vendors.

The situation with Nokia 8 Sirocco has already shown that this decision was a big mistake.” The tweets not only bashed the executive’s alleged decision, but also claim that there is resentment in the camp. “Indignation within the company is also confirmed by the recent leak of a photo from one of the HMD offices. A photo that shows the back of the Nokia 9 with all the stickers you can use to find out anything - including the names of the developer and the owner of the prototype,” a tweet claims. There is no official word from HMD Global on the launch of the smartphone and only time will tell if the Finnish giant has delayed the launch of the smartphone. Till now, we only know that the alleged Nokia 9 may sport a 4150 mAH non-removable battery. A photo showing the smartphone with five cameras and the Nokia branding was also spotted making rounds on the internet. The smartphone may feature a 5.9-inch, QHD resolution 3D glass OLED display and may be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.

The phone may sport a 41MP primary wide-angle camera, a 20MP secondary telephoto lens and a 9.7MP monochrome camera with ZEISS optics. There could be an IR focusing apparatus on the back and the the smartphone may come under Google’s Android One programme.
