Google awards its users for contributing to its services; for being a Local Guide on Google Maps or for participating in surveys in the Rewards app. It seems that Google is planning to introduce another way to reward its users. According to 9to5mac, an APK teardown of the latest version of the Google Play Store has showed that the company is working on “Google Play Points”, a loyalty/rewards programme which could allow users to earn points on all purchases they make on the Google Play Store.
The tech platform said that strings mentioning “Introducing Google Play Points” emerged with version 11.5 of the Google Play Store and later came in the 11.6 version. It is expected that users will be prompted to sign-up for the programme. “This service will feature a tilted square icon that uses the four Play colors, as seen in the header image above,” the report claimed.
The details suggest that if users buy music, movies, TV shows, books and Android apps, they can accumulate points. According to one string, a user will earn one point for every ¥100 (approx Rs 65) that it spends on the Play Store. There is no information on the regions where this programme will run. Furthur, the string also show that there will be “Level Benefits.” There is a mention of five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.
The APK teardown does not say anything about the criteria of reaching to different levels and the benefits of each level. It is not mandatory that the information in the strings after the APK teardown will be released in future. Google may ship those features or pull them back before they release the final version of the service.
