Fornite Battle Royale Season 6 update coming on September 27

Fortnite Battle Royale is set to get its next big update in the form of Season 6. The new update will be available to all players from September 27 onwards. The developers of the game, Epic Games, have been teasing what the new update will bring in terms of gameplay. The most prominent of these teasers has been ‘Kevin the Cube’ which randomly appeared in the map game. The giant purple cube initially appeared to move randomly around the map, as if following a path, all the while burning runes in the ground. Players standing near the cube noticed runes hovering above them, and they started to glow. Those who managed to jump on the cube would be bounced way up into the air, while those who struck it where struck back. ‘Kevin’ finally made its way to Loot Lake where it melted and turned the entire lake purple and bouncy. How does this play into Fortnite Season 6? We’ll have to wait till September 27 to find out for sure. However, Epic Games has announced that there is one gameplay change that is coming to Fortnite Battle Royale and that is in the sound department. In a blog post, the developer notes that “tactical audio cues are incredibly important to the core gameplay, and our goal is for you to be able to consistently rely on audio information to survive.” In lieu of this, Season 6 will bring a number of audio improvements to the gameplay. This includes a bigger contrast to the sounds of footsteps depending on the elevation in comparison to the player. It will also include high frequency audio in order to improve the ability of players to pinpoint the location of steps ad not have them drowned out during a firefight.  Besides footsteps, players will also be able to make out if any player near them is using the glider. When a players will hear a “car passing by” effect when another players glides over them. They will also be able to hear the sound of gliders opening/closing from further away. Epic also plans to add audio cues when a player is ‘flying through the air’.  “With Fortnite’s mobility mechanics and dynamic building/destruction, we are presented with unique challenges for spatial audio. It’s something we’ll continue to iterate and improve upon, in addition to other avenues we are looking to explore for the future. For example, Sound Propagation, where sounds actually travel through the world like they do in real life, and HRTF filtering, where sounds around you are filtered to sound as if they're passing through your body,” the developer notes. These new additions will hopefully make the game more competitive, especially considering the fact that the first-person juggernaut that is Call of Duty is about to jump into (pun intended) the battle royale playing field with Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode. Season 6 is now dropping from the Battle Bus on September 27. Celebrate its arrival and unlock those final Battle Pass rewards with an additional 400% Match XP all weekend, from now until September 24 at 8 AM ET (1200 GMT). Glide into the party!
