Bug accidentally turned on battery saver mode on smartphones running Android 9 Pie

Users running their devices on the latest Android Pie Beta might have experienced an aberration with the battery saver option. There’s a bug that was apparently causing the battery saver option to switch even when a device’s battery was fully charged. Some Redditors posted about this issue on Reddit’s /r/GooglePixel, and /r/Android subreddits, noting that in their phone settings, the power saving option was set to switch on automatically at 99 percent battery capacity. Normally, the feature can be set to turn on when battery is as high as 75 percent. Sometime later after the Reddit threads started to gain traction, Google took note and soon a representative confirmed that the issue was caused because the company was internally testing a feature that was inadvertently rolled out to more users.  “Hi all, some of you may have noticed that battery saver turned on automatically today.

This was an internal experiment to test battery saving features that was mistakenly rolled out to more users than intended. We have now rolled battery saver settings back to default. Please configure to your liking. Sorry for the confusion.” – /u/PixelCommunity on Reddit.

We were not bugged by the bug on our Pixel 2 XL running on the latest Android 9 Pie beta but as per Reddit posts, OnePlus 6,
Nokia 7.1 Plus and other smartphone users with the beta OS running on their devices were affected.  Google announced the Anroid 9 Pie operating system on August 6, 2018, and it was made available for the company’s Pixel smartphone the same day.

The stable version of Android 9 Pie is expected to be rolled out with the Pixel 3 smartphones that will be unveiled at the upcoming Google event on October 9 in New York. Reports and rumours about the upcoming smartphones suggest that there could be two Pixel 3 devices, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3XL. Except for the most recent ones, almost all the reports suggest that the Pixel 3XL could feature a notched display.

However, a user recently spotted Google ads that revealed a new Pixel Book 2 with thin bezels and a Pixel smartphone with no notch. You can read more about the upcoming handsets here.
