Apple reportedly shifting some iPhone Xr manufacturing orders to Foxconn from Pegatron

The well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that the iPhone Xr will perform well in sales and more customers will be upgrading to it instead of going for the iPhone 8 phones. A Chinese newspaper now claims that Apple has moved some manufacturing orders of the most affordable iPhone of the 2018 lineup from Pegatron to Foxconn to mitigate any delays in shipments when the handset goes up for sale in October. The claims falls in line with another one of Kuo’s statement in which he says that the production of most affordable iPhone of the 2018 lineup will ‘markedly improve’ beginning in mid to late October. As per the Economic Daily News (via Digitimes), Apple has reportedly shifted more of its orders for the iPhone Xr to Foxconn Electronics because “Pegatron has seen its production slowing down due to capacity constraints and delayed shipments of some key components.” The newspaper claims that Apple had originally split its orders for the iPhone Xr mainly between Pegatron and Foxconn and Pegatron received 50-60 percent of the total orders while Foxconn got about 30 percent. With the alleged delay in parts, the production orders to Pegatron have reportedly fallen below 30 percent, while ramping up those to Foxconn substantially. It states that Pegatron's production has been affected by a lower-than-expected yield rate and a shortage of workers at its plants in China. Apple launched the iPhone Xr on September 12 at an event in the US and it is the 'most affordable' of the three iPhones launched this year. Unlike the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max, it comes equipped with a “Liquid Retina” LCD display and a single rear camera setup. It sports the same Face ID setup as the iPhone X and is powered by the A12 Bionic SoC. Apple will start accepting pre-orders for the phone from October 19 and the deliveries start a week later, from October 26. The phone starts from $749 in the US and is priced starting at Rs 76,900 in India.
