Android 80 Oreo update for Honor 8 reaches India

Users of Honor 8 (review) that launched back in 2016 are finally receiving the update to Android 8.0 Oreo. A Twitter user posted a screenshot on the microblogging site confirming the news. The device was among one of many from Honor that missed out in its update cycle, but it seems there have been a change of plans.

The Android 8.0 Oreo update with Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 on top starting rolling out to Chinese users at the end of June, and now it’s finally being made available to the Indian users of the phone. If you’re using the Honor 8, you must have already received the notification. If not, it should likely arrive in the next few days. You will have to download a hefty 2.33GB file for the update.

After installing, the phone will be updated to C675, EMUI version 8.0.0.512. You will need to be on EMUI 5.0.3 to receive the update. Android Oreo and EMUI 8.0 brings a lot of AI-baked system optimisations, gesture navigation, split-screen and picture-in-picture mode, improved notifications, and more granular features.

The Honor 8 was the company’s flagship phone two years back. The phone is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC coupled with 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. It’s one of the company’s first dual camera smartphone touting a 12+12MP setup with f/2.2 aperture and the secondary sensor acting as a monochrome sensor. Up front, there’s an 8MP camera.

The Honor 8 is also left out of Huawei’s list of phones that will receive the GPU Turbo update. The company has included the Honor View 10, Honor 7X, Honor 8 Pro and Honor 9 Lite in its list of devices scheduled to get the gameplay-enhancing update later this year. The old flagship will sadly miss out on the update, at least for now.
