Some MacBook Pro 2018 users complaining of crackling sound in speakers

Repeated complaints of faulty Butterfly keyboard in older MacBook Pros have given a tough time to Apple. In June this year, the company admitted to the problem and started a keyboard repair programme under which it offered free of cost repair for MacBook Pros plagued by keyboard issues.

The company attempted to fix the issue by putting an extra layer of silicon below the keys in its newest laptops. Just when Apple breathed a sigh of relief after solving the keyboard problem, users started complaining about a thermal throttling issue on the new MacBook Pros, for which Apple has already rolled out a fix. Now, users of the 2018 MacBook Pros are back with complaints regarding the speakers of the laptops.

Several users have been posting videos on YouTube claiming that the speakers of the 2018 MacBook Pros are producing a crackling sound. The crackling appears to occur during audio playback on both 13-inch and 15-inch models of the new MacBook Pro machines. MacRumors forum members have suggested that radio interference due to a lack of shielding, audio drivers, or the T2 chip could be the possible reason(s) of the sound.

The problem does not seem to be as widespread as the keyboard issue but is enough to grab the company’s attention and push them to rectify the problem. Apple updated its MacBook Pro line-up with up-to-date processors and a few new features in July. The MacBook Pro models with a Touch Bar now offer the latest eighth-generation Intel Core processors.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar now offers eighth-generation quad-core Intel Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs with clock speeds going up to 2.7GHz and 4.5GHz respectively with Intel Turbo Boost.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar gets a more significant bump in specs. It offers eighth-generation six-core Intel Core i7 and Core i9 CPUs with support for DDR4 RAM up to 32GB. The top-of-the-line CPUs clock at 2.9GHz, and speed up to 4.8GHz with Intel Turbo Boost.
