Samsung may soon launch the successor to its last years mixed reality headset, the Samsung HMD Odyssey+, with bluetooth connectivity support, a listing on Bluetooth certification website has suggested.
The listing shows two model numbers: XE800ZBA and XQ800ZBA. The XE800ZBA is the same nomenclature that was used for the device in the FCC filing. The other model number, XQ800ZBA, could be another variant of the head mounted device (HMD). Given the similar name used in two certification platforms, it is speculated that the Samsung Odyssey+ will just have an incremental update on the predecessor.
That update could be the Bluetooth connectivity feature. The device could also receive minor upgrades in terms of better wearing and viewing experiences. The FCC document also showed a slightly larger nose contact area for a comfortable wearing.
The listing also mentions ‘Wider Eye box’ that could denote the enhanced viewing area in the HMD. There is no mention about the technical changes like display quality, resolution, sound and overall make of the device. It could have the same hardware as the Odyssey. Launched in October last year, Samsung HMD Odyssey features dual 3.5-inch AMOLED displays with 1400 x 1600 resolution and a 110-degree field of view.
The Odyssey is priced at $499, which essentially put in the same segment of HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. It comes bundled with motion controllers and has built-in AKG-tuned headphones with 360-degree spatial audio support.
