Flipkart, the Indian ecommerce giant which is slowly inching ahead of global e-tailer Amazon in India in terms of growth, has launched a new product to take on its arch rivals. Called Flipkart Plus, the new programme aims to compete with Amazon Prime which offers access to exclusive deals, free one-day deliveries, subscription to Amazon Prime Video and much more at a price of Rs 999 per year or Rs 129 per month.
Flipkart Plus will be a free membership in comparison to Amazon Prime, but to earn the same, shoppers will have to spend at least Rs 12,500 on Flipkart before they are invited to join the programme. Here’s how you can become a Flipkart Plus member and the benefits you get with it.
How to become a Flipkart Plus Member To become Flipkart Plus members, shoppers will first have to collect 50 coins from Flipkart. Buyers can earn 1 coin on a transaction of Rs 250 and a maximum of 10 coins can be collected in one order. For instance, if you shop for Rs 2,500 on Flipkart, that order would earn you 10 coins. If the amount exceeds by another Rs 250, you will not get an eleventh coin because each order is limited to earning a maximum of 10 coins. Buyers must accumulate a total of 50 coins, which would be worth Rs 12,500 in transactions on Flipkart, to be able to become members of Flipkart Plus. Once a Flipkart member manages to gather 50 coins, they will be able to unlock the Flipkart Plus membership to avail its benefits. Flipkart Plus benefits Once Flipkart Plus membership is unlocked, the 50 coin balance will be debited from the user’s account, and more coins will be awarded on future purchases.
These coins can then be exchanged for rewards such as Flipkart purchase vouchers, free annual subscription to Hotstar, free annual membership to Zomato Gold, Bookmyshow movie vouchers, Makemytrip travel vouchers and more. Amazon Prime, on the other hand, charges a one-time (or monthly) transparent fee with which shoppers not only get early sale access and free & fast deliveries, they also get free access to Amazon Prime Video and Prime Music. Amazon also offers 2-hour express deliveries to certain cities for Prime members, along with other benefits on using Amazon Pay balance while shopping.
