Android 9 Pie was officially made available for Google’s Pixel series of smartphones just a week back and now, multiple users who loaded the final build of Android P on their 2016 Pixel, Pixel XL smartphones are reporting issues with fast charging. .
These issues are not new and those who were on Android P beta did report fast charging bugs when the OS was still under testing. However, even after updating to the final Android Pie build, those with 2016 Pixel XL phones are reporting that fast charging on their phones has broken and is not functioning the way it is supposed to. The issue is also present on the smaller 2016 Pixel phone, but Pixel XL owners seem to getting the worst of it.
The Pixel series of smartphones use USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) for quick charging. With the Android Pie update, a majority of 2016 Pixel XL users, and some Pixel users, are reporting that they are unable to rapid charge their phones using the company’s original charger or even third-party USB-PD chargers. Some phones display “Charging Slowly”, while others display “Charging Rapidly” when they are not in fact doing so. A Pixel 2 device was also reportedly charging slowly when turned off. As of now, Google has not acknowledged the issue and it’s not clear if Android Pie is to blame.
Hopefully, the company will rollout a software update to fix this teething issue on Android 9. Android Pie, or Android 9 Pie, or simply Android 9, is Google's latest operating system which brings a bunch visible changes, new features and even a new method of navigation. For now, only the Pixel phones and the Essential phone are receiving the Android Pie 9.0 update. Apparently, some Nokia 7 Plus users in India have reported receiving the final Android Pie update. Sony and HTC have also released a list of their devices getting the Android 9 update.
