Polish video game publisher and distributor, CD Projekt Red, which is famous for the Witcher franchise has been working on Cyberpunk 2077 for a long time. At E3 2018, we did get to see a trailer for the game at the Microsoft press conference but there was no gameplay available to the public. The gameplay was shown off behind closed doors. Recently at Gamescom 2018, again the same demo was showcased but with some tweaks. This too was behind closed doors. Finally, the gameplay demo is among us and we have our first experience with the bustling world of Cyberpunk. The demo for Cyberpunk 2077 begins with you donning the tole of the protagonist, V. You can choose to either be male or female and customize your characters traits and attributes.
The skillset that you choose doesn’t necessarily have to be the way you play the game. The developer has said that you can customize and change your attributes as the game progresses which is a very nice touch. Perhaps the best thing about the demo, apart from the awesome weapons customizations and car you drive is the presentation of Night City. The developers have made a living, breathing city where you can interact with a host of NPCs, admire the sites or simply explore. The developers have said that there will be no loading screens as you explore the city and we are looking forward to seeing how the loading screens are hidden.
Throughout the course of the demo, it was reiterated that this is a game in development and that things may change as Cyberpunk 2077 approaches its release date. Speaking of release date, it wasn’t provided. As the demo progresses, you, V, get a bung of augments very similar to what we’ve seen in games like Deus Ex. You will also have a large arsenal of weapons at your disposal. From guns filled with homing bullets to a shotgun that can shoot through walls and abilities that can help you slow time, identify enemy weakness, and much more. We have barely seen an hour of the game and what we saw was one mission, early in the game, that can be approached from several different directions, each of them with a unique outcome and a ripple effect that affects the entire game.
The game has a lot of mature content from language, sexual references, nudity, gore and more and CD Projekt Red says that it all isn’t there in the game for the heck of it. The world of Night City is a dangerous place, and all of this is a part of that world. Considering the developers past with games like the Witcher 3, we can’t wait to get our hands-on Cyberpunk 2077. What do you think? Will we see the game on the PS4 and Xbox One or will it be a launch title for the next console generation?
