BSNL beats Jio to offer cheapest plans at Rs 29 with 2GB data for 7 days

Reliance Jio is facing tough competition from an unlikely rival. State-owned telco BSNL has come out with a new plan called ‘Freedom Prepaid Plans’ that provides a lot of benefits at dirt cheap rates.

The new plan that has been named after Indian Independence Day will be available from August 10 in all circles and starts from Rs 9 to Rs 29. The Rs 9 prepaid plan offers 2GB 3G data after which the speed will go down to 80 kbps. There’s also unlimited voice calling (except in Delhi and Mumbai), and 100 free SMS. The plan’s validity of one day.

Then there’s the Rs 29 plan that has the same benefits of the Rs 9 plan but has a validity of 7 days. Both the plans have the free personalised Ringback Tune (PRBT) facility. The plans will be valid from August 10 to August 25. Post that, the data will be capped to 1GB with general calling benefits.

Essentially, the same benefits are available in the Rs 27 plan all year around. BSNL has been ramping up the competition against Reliance Jio and other private telecom providers. Till now, the most affordable plan was from Jio with benefits of 150MB 4G data per day along with unlimited calling for Rs 19. Airtel and Vodafone has plans starting from Rs 47.
