Earlier this month, it was reported that Xiaomi has registered a new device with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which bears a model number M1805E10A and is also known as the Pocophone. The smartphone is expected to house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The existence of the phone was attested when the same device got a certification by the Taiwanese certification agency, NCC.
Now, according to a report, the Chinese conglomerate is looking to launch the Pocophone F1 smartphone, reportedly aimed at Eastern European and Indian markets, at a price starting from €420 (approx Rs 33,500) for the 6/64GB model and €460 (approx Rs 37,000) for the 6/128GB version. Although Pocophone F1 may not be the cheapest smartphone with Snapdragon 845 SoC in India, it would be the cheapest one in Europe.
The prices of the variants have been made public by leakster Roland Quandt on Twitter. “Xiaomi Pocophone F1 will seemingly be cheap as chips... listing in eastern
Euroland for ~420 Euro (6/64GB) and ~460 Euro (6/128GB) (prices converted).
If it really has an SDM845 that pricing would be really impressive for a device with a 5.99in 2160x1080px screen,” he tweeted. Till now, Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition smartphones which have Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. While, Mi Mix 2S is available in some international markets, the Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition have been launched in China only. With Pocophone, Xiaomi looks to expand its reach in Europe.
The news comes after Xiaomi unveiled Mi A2 and Mi A2 Plus in Madrid, Spain in its second launch event in the continent. Further, the use of Pocophone moniker instead of Mi or Redmi branding suggests that the Chinese tech giant might be launching a new series. Earlier, XDA Developers claimed that Pocophone might make way to India under the codename ‘Beryllium’.
The smartphone is in development as there reportedly exists an up-to-date MIUI 10 Global Beta (v8.7.6) for it. The smartphone may sport a ‘notched’ LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It may feature dual-camera setup with optical zoom support at the back and run on Android 8.1 Oreo. It could be powered by a 4000mAh battery.
