HP is expected to launch a portfolio of products for creators on August 25th. The company is said to be launching the Envy series of laptops which includes the HP Envy 13, Envy 13 x360 and the Envy 15. With the new Envy series, it appears that HP is seeking to fill in a gap that exists for machines geared specifically towards content creators.
Currently, content creators have to choose between Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup or high-end gaming laptops for editing purposes. There are very few laptops outside of this like the Dell XPS 15, the newly launched XPS 17 and the ZenBook Pro Duo from Asus that are specifically designed for content creators. While the new 16-inch MacBook Pros start at close to Rs 2,00,000, the new Dell XPS 15 starts at Rs 1,86, 072 and the ZenBook Pro Duo is also priced north of Rs 2,00,000. Needless to say, there is a huge gap, especially at a lower price segment that’s needed to be filled. Currently, cheaper gaming laptops tend to fill this in.
The HP Envy 15 is expected to be powered by Intel’s 10th generation processors up to a Core i7-10750H and Nvidia’s discrete graphics going up to GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q. HP is also said to be using a Vapour Chamber to cool the CPU-GPU instead of the traditional copper. Lastly, HP is expected to offer display configurations up to a 4K OLED panel. OLED displays aren’t the best when it comes to colour-dependant work since the colour hue shifts based on the brightness settings, making such displays a pain to calibrate. IPS still continues to be the king of colour accuracy thanks to its coverage of the sRGB colour space and ease of calibration.
The HP Envy is expected to cater to the everyday-content creator, hinting at the possibility of the machines coming in at a price range much lower than that of existing creator-centric machines. Given that it's an Envy, we also expect the laptop to follow a sleek and elegant design language, setting them apart from gaming machines.
