If you’ve been trying to upload a file to Google Drive or send an attachment via Gmail, and it isn’t working, then know that you are not alone. As of writing this story, Digit has tried to upload an attachment to Gmail and it has failed multiple times. So yes, the problem is real. Google's G Suite Status Dashboard reads, “We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 8/20/20, 1:30 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem.”
Gmail isn’t the only service affected. Users have been facing an issue with Google Meet, Google Voice and Google Docs while some have also faced trouble uploading videos to YouTube. While one can send and receive emails, it is the process of uploading an attachment which is the issue.
Gmail and Google Drive facing upload issues, Google confirmsUsers on Downdetector have also been reporting the problem with Gmail, including users from India. One user says, “Yes, people in India and some other parts of the world are having this issue for about an hour”. According to Downdetector, the issue with Gmail started at about 9:30 AM today, 20th August 2020 India Time. While most users have reported attaching a file as the issue, some have also reported logging in as well as sending and receiving emails as the problem.
This isn’t the first time Google’s services have seen an outage like this. Online services like Facebook, Gmail, and even Twitter occasionally suffer global outages but usually resume operating as usual after a few hours.
