Its looks like WhatsApp will soon be getting a pretty big update. WhatsApp Beta recently was updated to v2.20.117 and the update fixed random crashes that here happening due to a missing library called “libcurve25519.so”. Besides this, WABetaInfo has managed to find a bunch of other features that will most likely soon be added to the stable version fo Whatsapp. This includes an Advanced Search feature, password protection for chat backups to Google Drive, and the removal of the auto-download option for frequently forwarded media.
The Advanced Search feature is said to complement the current chat search option by letting people search for media. The current search option is limited to only text messages, which can make looking for a specific photo, video or voice messages a little tricky.
WhatsApp is also working on a password protection feature for chat backups on Google Drive. This feature allows users to get a password for their chat, which needs to be entered in order to retrieve that backup. However, it is noted that this password is not saved or synced with the user’s WhatsApp account or on Facebook’s servers. So if they lose their password, their chat backup will be lost.
WhatsApp also seems to be doing its bit to curb the excessive number of message forwarding that happens on its platform. The report notes that it could soon allow users to disable the auto-downloading of frequently forwarded media like images, videos and documents on its platform. In related news, WhatsApp recently started limiting the number of people a message can be forwarded at a time to just one. You can find out more about that here.
