While Apple is rumoured to launch the successor of the iPhone SE this year, a new report suggests that it may also launch a successor of iPhone 8. Earlier iPhone SE 2 leaked renders have revealed a design language similar to that of iPhone 8 and support for Touch ID. However, a new report claims that Apple could launch an iPhone 8 successor with less bezels, Face ID support and a 5.4-inch display.
The latest development comes from a Japanese site MacOtakara, which claims that Apple could be developing a Face-ID touting iPhone 8 follow-up alongside a much-rumoured Touch ID version that is dubbed as “iPhone SE 2.” The rumoured handset is said to feature a 5.4-inch display into a case close to the size of iPhone 8. It means the handset may sport minimal bezels with a notch for Face ID. The report claims it may sport a “much bigger” camera as compared to iPhone 8.
While the report is confusing, MacOtakara explicitly describes this mysterious device as “an updated version of the iPhone 8 using the A13 Bionic chip.” Earlier rumours have suggested that upcoming iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 could come with Touch ID support with a design almost identical to that of the iPhone 8. Up till now, there has been no mention of less bezels. In fact, the leaked image of alleged iPhone SE showed big bezels with a home button.
Ming Chi Kuo had earlier announced Apple’s intentions of revealing a mid-cycle handset in March. While there has been no mention of the device name in the latest report, iPhone SE 2 and iPhone 9 could be two separate devices. If that is the case, we are likely to get more leaks about the two devices in the coming weeks.
