Huawei promises full refund to customers in Philippines if Google and Facebook apps stop working on their phones and tablets

Huawei is in deep trouble. While chipmakers in the US are lobbying to ease restrictions placed on Huawei by the US Government, the company is preparing for a drop in revenue as well as international sales. Following the US ban on Huawei, a Reuters report claimed that Facebook will no longer allow pre-installation of its apps on any future phones made by the Chinese company. Android, as we know, was one of the first casualties of the ban on Huawei, forcing the company to expedite work on its own operating system to replace the one that belongs to Google. With support from Google gone, Huawei also needs to look for a new App Store and the company is rumoured to be considering several different options.

Now, Revu.com, a technology website from Philippines, reports that Huawei is currently running a 100% refund programme in the country if its phones stop offering Google or Facebook-owned apps and services. The website reports that the offer of full refund on Huawei phones and tablets is being offered to customers contingent to the unavailability of Play Store, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Gmail and such.

Commenting on the refund scheme, Huawei told the publication, “it is an initiative of our distributors with our dealers.” Devices like the Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei P30, Huawei P30 Lite, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 Porsche Design, Huawei Mate 20 RS, Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Lite and more are being sold in the country under a Two-year Google Apps guarantee. The offer is applicable to phones and tablets bought from June 15 to August 31 this year.

Unfortunately, the offer is currently restricted to Philippines and there's no word on similar offers for India. Will Google and Facebook apps stop working on Huawei phones? Well, Google has given Huawei an extension till August 19. This exemption allows Huawei to get software updates from Google on its phones which use the Android operating system. What happens after that is unclear as of now. Facebook, on the other hand, has not announced any restrictions on Huawei smartphone as yet. Reports suggest that customers who already own Huawei phones will still be able to use its apps and receive updates.
