Reliance Jio now offers VoLTE-based inbound International Roaming 4G services between India and Japan

Reliance Jio has partnered with KDDI, a Japan-based telecommunications operator to enable its VoLTE based inbound International Roaming 4G services between India and Japan. Jio subscribers in Japan will be able to make calls and access the internet on the company’s network, without switching to a local SIM. “Reliance Jio is focused on delivering the best data and voice experience to all of India and those who visit India. We welcome KDDI customers to Jio as the first international VoLTE and HD roaming users in India,” said Mark Yarkosky, Reliance Jio. The company also reiterated the results of TRAI’s MySpeed app. It said that Jio’s network has been the fastest in India over the last 20 months with an average download speed of 20.6Mbps in September 2018. However, the November OpenSignal report suggests that Airtel is the fastest when it comes to download speeds, while Jio exhibited the widest 4G network availability and lowest latency among the competing five network providers in the Indian market. OpenSignal published that report after accessing 10,509,371,943 data points that it collected from 1,769,711 between the period of June 1 and August 29, 2018. OpenSignal stated that some of the highest 4G availability scores are being observed in India. You can read more on the report here.  The telecom sector has turned fiercely competitive since Reliance Jio entered the market. Vodafone recently announced 100 cashback on select recharge plans similar to what Jio does but it’s not applicable pan India. The company is offering 100 percent cashback only on prepaid plans priced at Rs 399, Rs 458 and Rs 509. Do note that the offer can be availed only via the My Vodafone app and the cashback will be credited to the user as Rs 50 vouchers. These vouchers can be applied while performing another recharge but can only be used for the phone number to which they were credited. You can learn more about the offer here.
