Nokia India teases launch of new smartphone with notched display, expected to be Nokia 81

Nokia is teasing the launch of a new smartphone in India. The company recently tweeted out a silhouette of a phone featuring a notched display and its caption reads, “The picture’s about to get rosy with an epic viewing experience. Get ready to #ExpectMore.” While there’s no solid information on what phone could be announced, speculation is that the company might soon unveil its Nokia X7 in India, after renaming it to Nokia 8.1. The Nokia X7 was launched in China last month and we were expecting the company to rename it as Nokia 7.1 Plus when it launches globally. However, a recent report suggested Chief Product Officer at Nokia, Juho Sarvikas, will be keeping the Nokia 7.1 Plus moniker reserved for another device that could debut around MWC 2019 and rename the Nokia X7 as the Nokia 8.1 for its global debut, which is tipped to be announced before 2019.  Adding to rumours, the Nokia 8.1 smartphone was also spotted on Geekbench running the same SoC as the Nokia X7. The listing suggested that the device could be launched running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, coupled with 4GB RAM. The said device was seen running on Android 9 Pie. Keeping in mind that Nokia has not launched any flagship phone after the Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco, this change in the naming convention would actually make sense. Renaming the Nokia X7 as the Nokia 8.1 would categorise it as an upper mid-range smartphone, paving way for the rumoured flagship Nokia 9 PureView.  Speaking of the Nokia 9 PureView, images of the device’s back case were recently leaked. The cover features several cutouts for the camera setup, seven to be exact. Five of these are said to be for the lenses, while the other two could be for the LED flash and the alleged IR focusing apparatus. An elongated cut-out on one of the cameras hints at the presence of a microphone. You can read more about the device here. The picture's about to get rosy with an epic viewing experience.
