By now, multiple leaks, rumours and analyst reports have confirmed that Apple will be launching three new iPhones this year. The launch event for the new iPhones - Two with OLED screens and one with an LCD panel - will be held on September 12. As the launch of the new iPhones nears, we are seeing a surge in leaks and reports regarding the expected price and names of the new devices. When Apple did not launch an iPhone 9 last year and went straight to iPhone X after iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, it made things difficult for itself in terms of naming the devices going forward.
As a resut, we are seeing multiple reports suggesting that the new OLED iPhones, successors to the iPhone X, will be deemed the iPhone Xs series. 9to5 Mac reports that the iPhone Xs series will comprise of two models with varying screen sizes - 5.8-inch OLED and 6.5-inch OLED. While the screen sizes for the upcoming OLED iPhones has been known for a while, what we did not know were the names of the two phones.
Now, the publication has learnt from sources that the bigger of the two, the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will be called the iPhone Xs Max. Apple has never used the term 'Max' to denote any of its previous iPhones and the usual practice has been to denote the larger variant of the same phone with the 'Plus' moniker. Now though, it seems lke the company is leaving its old and less confusing naming convention behind to take the iPhone lineage forward.
The publication also notes that the 5.8-inch iPhone Xs and 6.5-inch iPhone Xs Max will house 4GB RAM and dual SIM options in some markets. The phones will reportedly run on Apple's new A12 SoC. Besides the iPhone Xs and Xs Max, Apple is also expected to launch a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD iPhone which will reportedly be called the iPhone Xc.
This will be available in multiple colours and may be priced at $749 (approx Rs. 54,000). Prices of the OLED iPhones have also been spotted doing the rounds on the internet. The larger iPhone Xs Max could be priced around $999 (approx Rs 71,700), while the smaller iPhone Xs could cost around $899 (Rs 64,500 approx).
